ISLAMABAD:
According to Ptisupporter News, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) agreed on Monday to abstain from the Senate’s planned deputy chairman and chairman elections for the senate, which are set for tomorrow (Tuesday).
The PTI called for delaying the poll because the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senate election had been postponed, and this was decided at the party’s central committee meeting. The PTI argued that the election was unconstitutional as the KP senators were necessary for the House of Parliament.
The party declared that if it did not represent every unit in the federation, the elections would be “unconstitutional.”
The former ruling party claims that the government’s tactic to intimidate judges involved complaints against Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.
In a statement, the PTI claimed that the election was unconstitutional because the upper house of parliament would not be complete without the election of senators from the KP.

It is important to note that the provincial election commissioner in KP postponed the Senate election on April 2 in response to an application from opposition lawmakers.
The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has filed a plea with the Election Commission of Pakistan to postpone the Senate chairman.
On behalf of the SIC, attorney Hamid Khan filed a plea requesting that the ECP call an early election to fill 11 Senate seats in the province.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed SIC
The KP Senate poll is necessary to complete the Electoral College, according to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed SIC, which suggested delaying the April 9 Senate chairman and deputy chairman elections.
In the meantime, following the recent House election, plans are in motion to call the Senate into its first session on April 9.
In addition to the newly elected senators taking their oaths during the Senate session, the election of the chairman and deputy chairman will also take place that day.
Senate’s top slots
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) boycotted the upcoming upper chamber of parliament election on Tuesday.
The core committee of the former ruling party made the decision and asked that the upcoming elections for the Senate’s top seats be postponed. The party founded by Imran Khan argued that elections would be unconstitutional.
Before this explanation, the former ruling party submitted an appeal to the Senate secretary requesting that the aforementioned polls be postponed. Senator Saifullah Niazi claimed in his appeal that there were 96 Senate members in reality.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been unable to administer an oath to reserved seat MPs. The KP Senate elections were postponed last week.
The statement argued that elections should not occur until the KP Senate polls are completed.
PTI senators’ contradictory statements
Sen. Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur stated that the Senate chairman’s and deputy chairman’s elections will not be boycotted.
The PTI’s senators will finalise their action plan and fully participate in the upcoming polls during a senators’ meeting today. “We will take part in this political process because we are a part of it.”
Senator Saifullah Abro subsequently stated that the previous ruling party had not decided to boycott the elections. He went on to say that the high court’s ruling would be followed by the ultimate decision.
IHC’s objection to PTI entreaty
The PTI, which ruled the nation from 2018 to 2022, also challenged the aforementioned elections in a constitutional appeal filed with the Islamabad High Court (IHC). However, the IHC objected to the request, stating that the Peshawar High Court (PHC) was already handling a comparable case.
The IHC Registrar’s Office argued that since the KP Senate seat case was already pending in the PHC,.
President summons joint session
The PTI protests the top position election due to an “incomplete house,” while President Zardari calls for new members’ oaths. The News first reported on this on Monday.
During the Senate session, newly elected senators will take an oath, and elections will be held for the constitutional positions.
The oath will be administered to senators chosen in the Senate’s by-elections to fill open seats.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has not nominated anyone for the deputy chairman position. A statement on the PML-N’s consideration of a female lawmaker for the position is anticipated today.
The PTI has not yet submitted a candidate to contest the joint candidate of the ruling coalition for the chairmanship.
