LAHORE:
Initially, the Punjab Assembly election results for all 296 seats have been released, and in a startling development, the independent candidates (PTI) have emerged as the front-runners, winning a total of 138 seats.
Political Situation
The Punjab Assembly’s political environment is characterized by the predominance of independent candidates, the bulk of whom are associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which secured 138 seats out of 296 available seats in Punjab. Further, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has declared victory in 10 constituencies, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has garnered 137 seats, trailing closely behind.
However, noteworthy results were the eight seats won by the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), one seat by the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and one seat by the Pakistan Muslim League-ZIA (PML-Z).
In the Punjab Assembly
The Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) has also secured one seat.
PP-1:
Qazi Ahmed Akbar, an independent who received support from the PTI, won the seat with 49257 votes. Jahangir Khanzada of the PML-N received 36443 votes.
PP-2:
Sardar Muhammad Ali Khan, an independent supported by the PTI, won the seat with 36093 votes. However, Ifthikhar Ahmed of the PML-N received 35291 votes.
PP-3:
Syed Aijazul Hasan, supported by the PTI, received 36897 votes to defeat PML-N’s Hameed Akbar, who received 31857 votes.
PP-4:
Further, Sardar Shahnawaz Khan, the PTI-backed candidate, lost to PML-N’s Sher Ali Khan, who received 48,593 votes to Shahnawaz’s 38,790.
PP-5:
On PP-5 Attock, Malik Aitebar Khan of the PML-N defeated Malik Jamsheed Altaf, the candidate supported by the PTI. Altaf received 43620 votes, while Khan received 46665.
Assembly of Punjab
However, the Punjab Assembly’s 296 constituencies have yielded results, with 137 of them going to PML-N candidates and 138 to independents. The results are available on the Election Management System. Ten seats have been gained by the PPP, eight by the PML-Q, and one each by the TLP and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party.
